UNISON Release Pension Campaigning Toolkit
UNISON, the largest trade union in the UK, representing 1.3million workers, including thousands of LGPS members in the UK, have released a practical guide for scheme members to campaign to ensure their pension isn’t investing in human rights abuses.
The guide provides scheme members with a range of actions they can take to encourage their fund to put pressure on the companies involved in the occupation of Palestinian land, and begin the process of divestment from companies listed on the UN human rights office’s list of business enterprises active in Israel’s illegal settlements. The pack gives clear steps you can take to influence the decision-makers, and end fund complicity.
The LGPS Divest campaign, supported by UNISON, Unite the Union, and GMB, is calling for administering authorities of the LGPS to implement adequate investment screening and due diligence procedures to guarantee that scheme members’ money is not used to support Israel’s violations of international law.
